Sorrento's historic centre — the Piazza Tasso and the surrounding streets — is accessible and relatively flat for an Italian hillside town. The views from the clifftop gardens and the Villa Comunale look back across the bay to Vesuvius and Naples: one of the defining panoramas of the region.
The town is known for its limoncello, inlaid wood (intarsia), ceramics and citrus products. A wander through the Via San Cesareo market street is one of the pleasures of Sorrento on a slower pace.
Travel Intensity: easy-to-moderate. The town centre is mostly walkable on relatively flat streets. There are steps down to Marina Grande and Marina Piccola if you want to reach the water. The clifftop area above is the easier option.
From Naples cruise port, Sorrento is approximately 50 km — typically 60–90 minutes by road depending on traffic. It is often combined with Pompeii (the archaeological site is en route) or used as a base for an Amalfi Coast day. Check current transport times before travelling.
