A smaller-group excursion from the Maritime Station cruise pier combining approximately two hours of free time in Vietri sul Mare — the ceramics town at the Amalfi Coast's eastern edge — with a guided Pompeii visit of approximately two hours. Pompeii admission is included. Activity level is Difficult.
This tour is explicitly NOT the same as the standard Pompeii and Amalfi Coast combo. The coastal destination is Vietri sul Mare, a hillside ceramics town perched above the Tyrrhenian as the eastern gateway to the Amalfi Drive — not Amalfi town itself, Positano or Ravello. Vietri is known for its painted ceramic tradition, narrow streets and several churches; the approximately two hours of free time suits independent exploration at a gentle pace.
After Vietri, the drive heads inland and south towards Pompeii in the shadow of Vesuvius. Pompeii's guided visit lasts approximately two hours, covering the Forum, temples, residential quarters and other key structures. Pompeii entrance is included; all guests must show a valid photo ID at entry.
The supplier notes heavy traffic congestion should be anticipated throughout and may affect timing. The tour is rated Difficult, with significant walking over uneven terrain including the steep 20–25 step incline at the main Pompeii entrance. Guests must be in good physical condition.
Departure is in groups of no more than 30 guests per the supplier's product page. Children must be at least 4 years old to participate.
Why we recommend it
The key differentiator from the standard combo: smaller departure groups (the supplier states no more than 30 guests), a Difficult activity rating, and the coastal town stop is Vietri sul Mare rather than Amalfi. Vietri is a ceramics hub and the eastern gateway to the coast — a different experience from Amalfi's cathedral and piazza.
Highlights
- Vietri sul Mare — approximately two hours free time in the Amalfi Coast's ceramics gateway town
- Scenic drive through the Amalfi Coast landscape
- Guided Pompeii visit approximately two hours — admission included
- Smaller group departure (no more than 30 guests per supplier)
Planning notes
The supplier emphasises that heavy traffic congestion should be anticipated and may affect the excursion duration; on select days the itinerary may be altered at the operator's discretion. This tour is NOT wheelchair accessible and is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. Guests must be able to walk approximately 2.5 miles over cobblestones, uneven surfaces, steep inclines and steps.
Naples cruise ships dock at the Stazione Marittima complex — Molo Angioino and Molo Beverello on the western waterfront. Meeting points vary by excursion; confirm your specific pier from your booking confirmation before sailing day. Plan every day backwards from your ship's all-aboard time, not just its posted departure, and build at least a 45-minute buffer for the return journey to the pier. The Amalfi Coast road is narrow, at points single-track, and subject to severe seasonal congestion: delays of 30–60 minutes beyond planned times are common on busy summer port days. Pompeii and Vesuvius excursions generally offer more predictable return timing. Always confirm your operator's return-to-ship guarantee and contingency plan before booking any long coastal day.
Cruise suitability: Full port day required; activity level is Difficult — not suitable for passengers with limited mobility

- Vietri sul Mare is the coastal stop — not Positano, Amalfi or Ravello
